This information comes from Andi’s trusted source within Capcom and has been confirmed by prominent leaker Dusk Golem.
The details were shared in a YouTube stream and translated by X user Sapphire Weapon’s Charred Remains. Resident Evil 9 will star both Jill and Leon, with Jill playing a role similar to Sheva’s in Resident Evil 5. The game will incorporate open-world elements like Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 Remake, but it won’t be fully open-world.
Initially designed as a co-op game, the focus may now shift to single-player due to the success of Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village. Capcom considered cutting Jill to focus solely on Leon and the single-player experience but ultimately decided to keep her due to her reduced role in RE5. The game will be third-person, with the possibility of a first-person mode being added later, similar to The Evil Within 2.
Potential supporting characters might include Barry Burton for Jill and Ada Wong for Leon. The story will not focus on Blue Umbrella or the BSAA cliffhanger from Village; if these elements appear, it will be in a minor capacity.
